Summary of Role

In this EPSRC-funded project, we will investigate how privacy can be measured when designing new privacy-enhancing technologies. To achieve this, we will create a framework for the systematic evaluation of privacy metrics and evaluate privacy metrics in four application domains: vehicular networks, smart metering, social networks, and data publishing. We will evaluate the quality of existing privacy metrics, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and build on this evidence to propose new much stronger privacy metrics. We envision that our metrics will be used to evaluate new privacy-enhancing technologies and to analyse the trade-offs between privacy and utility or security.

You will be responsible for implementing the open source framework, including privacy metrics, metric strength indicators, adversary models, and user actions. In addition, you will be responsible for designing and executing experiments to evaluate privacy metrics and analysing the resulting data.
